Dear John,
As families return to find their homes reduced to rubble across Gaza, a feminist organization we support is on the ground providing lifesaving relief to women, children, and people with disabilities impacted by the genocide. They're delivering what communities need most to make it through each day: winter clothes to ward off the cold, hygiene supplies, food parcels, emergency cash, and critical psychological support. When humanitarian aid is blocked or falls short, they step in—because feminists are consistently among the first responders in any crisis, and they respond with care and dignity at the center of everything they do.
Over the past two years, we’ve awarded over 65 grants, totaling over $440,000, to frontline feminist movements in Palestine and the diaspora who are working to address the impacts of genocide and displacement. Through our rapid response grants, we’ve supported queer and trans youth, journalists, environmental and disability justice activists, refugees, and other feminist activists, providing essential support and services for their communities and advocating for a lasting and just peace.

From Palestine to Ukraine, from Turkey to the United States—whether responding to genocide and war, supporting survivors after earthquakes, or fighting for families torn apart by ICE—feminist activists and movements are the ones holding communities together when crisis hits and everything else falls apart. Beyond that, they are the ones preparing for a crisis long before it happens and putting the pieces together after the moment of urgency has passed. Their local response rooted in their communities, their courage, and their commitment are sustained by a profound well of love for their people and communities. They have much to teach us all about what solidarity actually looks like.
As we begin to close out this year, I keep returning to the unwavering spirit and commitment to justice that feminist activists living through some of the most brutal forms of oppression demonstrate. That is my most powerful source of hope. That is what I will carry into next year as we continue to resource and support frontline activists and movements.
In solidarity,
Otibho Obianwu
Director of Programs
