Dear John,

In 2026, our elections will face a novel threat: the federal government. The administration has already begun its campaign to seize control of elections, a move that is flatly unconstitutional. President Trump’s “show your papers” order would have disenfranchised millions of American citizens who don’t have a passport or birth certificate readily available. (The Brennan Center, with others, sued and scored a decisive victory in the case on October 31.)

Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Department of Justice has demanded access to the confidential and sensitive personal information on state voter rolls and sued states that resisted. The administration also purged federal election security experts who had helped ensure previous elections were secure.

There will be more threats and attempts to undermine elections in the lead-up to the 2026 midterms. The Brennan Center will fight back against every attack on the freedom to vote. Will you help fund that fight?

In 2026, we will continue to be nimble and take on emerging threats while staying laser-focused on ensuring free and fair elections and stopping abuse of presidential power.

We will keep pressing for better protections for the poll workers who ensure every eligible voter is heard — even in the face of increased pressure and attacks. We will keep going to court to fight attempts to manipulate our elections. We will push Congress to resist proposals to restrict the right to vote.

We won’t do this alone. We will work with election officials, law enforcement, and cybersecurity experts. We will take the case to the public and ensure legacy and new media keep voters informed. And we’ll need supporters like you to speak out too.

John, will you join the fight by making a donation today?
