Dear friend,

As we near the end of 2025 and the end of the first session of the 119th Congress, I want to take a minute to reflect on the year. Taking this look back reminds me of everything we can do together to serve New Mexicans and make the state we love stronger.

This year, Democrats were fighting for all Americans, and I was proud to be part of the fight. I voted hell no against the harmful Big, Ugly Bill that stripped away healthcare from millions of men, women, children, and seniors.

We continued drafting legislation safeguarding our democracy and the rule of law, ensuring that federal workers were protected during the illegal DOGE cuts, preserving our public lands, waters, and sacred sites, and preventing Donald Trump from hiding from the Epstein files.

This year, I was proud to introduce 23 bills and to co-sponsor more than 330 pieces of legislation. We re-introduced crucial legislation like the Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act to set up an inspector general at the Supreme Court, the STOPP Act to track pill pressers and stop fentanyl before it is even produced, and the WaterSMART Access for Tribes to assist tribes in planning, designing, or constructing any water management, to name a few.

I also introduced new legislation that took on the Trump Administration with the Nobody Elected Elon Musk Act, worked to protect Americans in need with the SNAP BACK Act, and with the Hands Off Our Social Security Act, and to open avenues for middle-income tribes to have more housing options through the Tribal Affordable Housing Act.

Every action in Washington, D.C. is done in conjunction with our work in New Mexico.  The district team brought wins for NM-01 that we can see every day. Our casework team solved 602 cases and brought $954,285 back for constituents. We had more than 30 townhalls and 21 listening sessions, getting the chance to meet with more than 15,000 of you in person.

I love being from New Mexico and getting the chance to show the rest of the country our incredible district and state was part of the office’s mission this year. We did storytelling sessions about local musicians, Land Grant communities, local businesses, and Tribes.

We partnered with organizations that help every area of our community, from Animal Humane, New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, to Common Cause, Road Runner Food Bank, El Centro, and the New Mexico Asian Family Center.

A month-to-month breakdown and some photos from the year are below!

The fight will continue in 2026, and I am ready to show up for our wonderful district and state. I continue to be honored and awed by your trust in me to fight for you in Washington, D.C. Thank you for your continued support and trust.

JANUARY

We started a new Congress in January, and the 119th Congress was sworn in. I spoke at the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish to honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Trump was sworn in as president, and I immediately began fighting against his aggressive and dangerous climate agenda. I was at home in the state legislature—addressing friends, and made calls congratulating the newest members of our service academies!

FEBRUARY

February was full of fighting back and work on the ground. We stood in solidarity with dedicated civil servants who were illegally and unjustly fired by the administration. You all packed the house for our first town hall of the year, and we visited veterans at the VA during one of our favorite events – Valentine's for Vets

MARCH

I told the world that this is not normal. I had the honor of walking the Edmund Pettis Bridge with Civil Rights leaders and other Members of Congress. Back home in NM-01, we crisscrossed the district and got the chance to meet so many New Mexicans and hosted our second online town hall!

APRIL

In April, we continued to fight against the disenfranchisement of millions of Americans by protecting voting rights and voting “no” on the SAVE Act, and to protect veterans across the country. Back in the district, we spent time in Land Grant communities - historic land grants that shape New Mexico to this day.

MAY

Every month, we went toe-to-toe with the Trump Administration and the GOP House leadership—that includes standing with the transgender community as they came under attack from conservatives. After an all-night fight in the Rules Committee, I voted “hell no” on the GOP’s reconciliation bill. At home in New Mexico on Memorial Day, I was proud to honor the men and women in our military who gave their lives to protect us.

JUNE

Let me be clear - Immigrants make this country great and standing up for their rights is now more important than ever. Democrats took on the GOP’s racist and dangerous agenda by fighting back in the Oversight Committee. We witnessed the break-up of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In the House Natural Resources Committee, I questioned Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum on this promise to consult with Tribes. In the district, we held a Juneteenth town hall and greeted our veterans at the Sunport as they returned from their Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

JULY

When tragedy strikes New Mexico, our communities come together because we are New Mexico Strong. My colleagues and I stood for a moment of silence to remember the three people who died during the fires and flooding in Ruidoso. Democrats battled back against the Administration’s effort to take Social Security. At the end of the month, we held our yearly retreat and visited some of the places that make NM-01 so special.

AUGUST

In August, we left D.C. to spend important time in our districts. During the August work month, I ventured to Corona to talk about the future of clean energy in the state. We fought hard to protect access to Social Security, and I loved spending time at the Zia Gay Rodeo.

SEPTEMBER

This month, we met with the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and stood with them in their fight for justice, went to New York City for Climate Week, and visited our seniors at the North Valley Senior Center. Whether I was in D.C. or in the district—doing what is best for New Mexico was always on my mind.

OCTOBER

Speaker Mike Johnson was not interested in re-opening the government, getting millions of Americans back to work or ensuring people had to food to eat—he kept the House out of session for 54 days, but Democrats never stopped working. In the district, we found ways to give back, reveled in the beauty that is Balloon Fiesta, and let people know they were not alone. During this time, it was crucial that we gave New Mexicans as much information as we could, and we held a community resource fair to connect those affected by the shutdown with the resources they needed to get through, as well as 14 other community-focused events. We also celebrated the grand opening of Sandia Pueblo’s Early Childhood Development Center!

NOVEMBER

During the shutdown, I stayed active in both New Mexico and D.C. because I know it is a privilege to serve you. And I was fighting until the very last minute before the harmful Republican-led bill was passed. I stood up to protect Chaco Canyon, and voted yes to release the Epstein Files and bring justice to his victims. We also volunteered at New Mexico Animal Humane, visited small businesses for Small Business Saturday, and spent time in our historic Santa Barbara-Martineztown neighborhood.

DECEMBER

The last month of the year is always a sprint to the finish. I focused on increasing services for veterans in New Mexico and across the country. We brought some holiday cheer to the halls of Congress and introduced 3 new bills this month alone to address the needs of New Mexicans and Americans all across the country. In the district, we visited Bernalillo to learn more about the history of the community and celebrated the grand re-opening of AFR Fire Station #12!

I am sending you joy and peace during this holiday season.

It is an honor to represent you in Congress.  As always, if I can assist you or your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office at (505) 346–6781!
