Dear friend of IDP,
When the team at the Immigrant Defense Project asked me to design an image for the organization, I was honored. I am an attorney and alumni of IDP - I worked there for almost a decade and have long been part of the IDP family, starting as a legal intern in 2010 - but I am also an artist, whose art captures moments of calm and beauty in everyday life.
I knew the task of designing something for IDP would have to depict both the grief of this moment - of daily threats, criminalization, detention and deportation - while also illustrating IDP’s critical role in fighting back and in uplifting care, survival and joy. As I reflected on IDP’s work - providing critical legal support, challenging inhumane laws, advocating for policy and legislative change, and using strategic communications - what jumped out was hope and possibility.
In the face of cruelty and harm, IDP’s work is analogous to planting seeds and bringing light even in dark places. With this in mind, I designed this ranunculus flower so closely resembling IDP’s long-time orange and circular logo coming out of cracked concrete, very much inspired by New York City where IDP has so long had a strong base. And from the flower is also growing a bud - a prospect of rejuvenation and perseverance.

At a time when people are being abducted, IDP’s work is an act of refusal and resistance. And to do that work well, they need our support. I urge all of you to read and forward their End of Year Appeal letter ([link removed]) to your friends and family and help them meet their fundraising goal by December 31st – just days from now.
