Just after midnight, as Christmas began in the United States, a federal judge stepped in to temporarily stop the U.S. State Department from detaining Imran Ahmed, our CEO and Founder, in an effort to deport him.

Detain? Deport? You read it right.

Instead of spending Christmas with his wife and young child, Imran is fighting an unconstitutional, and un-American, attempt to deport him for doing his life’s work: protecting children from social media harm, exposing antisemitism, and holding powerful tech companies accountable.

As Imran said:

This case is not just about Imran.

It is a direct threat to anyone who challenges social media giants, publishes uncomfortable truths, or demands accountability for the harm caused by social media platforms. If governments can punish researchers and advocates for their speech, no one doing this work is safe.

The legal fight is far from over. Legal costs are mounting, and the pressure on CCDH’s work is real.

This is not how any of us planned to spend the Christmas season. But the stakes could not be higher.
