Dear ,
In Charles Dickens' story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the ghost of Jacob Marley forces Scrooge to confront a lifetime of indifference to the struggles of others, and to reckon with a haunting question: "Why did I walk through crowds of fellow-beings with my eyes turned down?"
Unfortunately, we are seeing this type of "Scrooge-like" behavior by Republican leaders in Washington right now. This week, Republican leaders in Congress adjourned – and Congress officially headed home for their winter break. You read that right: Republican leaders left the U.S. Capitol to be with their families, but they've left millions of our families in the shadow of a looming health care crisis.
Republican leaders adjourned without extending the expiring health care tax credits that keep insurance affordable for 20 million Americans. Click here to tell Republican leaders in Congress: Don't look away. Restore subsidies now!

Unless Republican leaders in Congress have a change of heart like Scrooge and passes a retroactive fix the moment they return in January, the impact will be devastating:
Sticker Shock: Families will see their health care costs more than double—an average increase of $1,016 per person.
* The "Tiny Tims" are at risk: Over a million children gained coverage because of these credits. Without them, parents will be forced to choose between medicine for their kids and putting food on the table.
* Billionaires over Families: While the administration focuses on tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy, 20 million hardworking "fellow-beings" are being left to bear the brunt of skyrocketing costs.

Here is the petition text you'll be signing:
"The health and security of our families is not a political game. By allowing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits to expire, 20 million Americans could be forced into a financial crisis. Congress must return in January and immediately pass a clean, retroactive extension of these tax credits—and add a special enrollment period for people to sign up—to ensure no family is left without care."
