Friends,

This is a critical time. We're nearing the end of this two year legislative session, and there are so many issues that need action.

We continue to demand that our representatives pass bold climate policy to get Massachusetts to zero emissions as soon as possible. We're also demanding that they fight for environmental justice. Join us in asking our Representatives to join a briefing on the Environmental Justice Bill this Friday. We must protect our communities from toxic pollution and climate change impacts that threaten our health.

Our causes are all connected. Over the last 5 scorching hot days, members of Cosecha Massachusetts and others fighting for dignity for undocumented people have been camped outside of the Statehouse. They're putting pressure on our leaders to legalize driver's licenses for undocumented people. Friends of mine have been among the activists taking a stand for the right to drive and I am honored to support them as I am able. Our allies in the movement for justice and collective liberation are taking action to stop evictions, fully fund our schools, and more.

See below for ways to take action on all these issues. Let's come together this week to meet these challenges and build a better future.

In solidarity,

Phoebe Dolan

URGENT: Contact your Rep Before July 31 to Support Comprehensive Climate Legislation

The Massachusetts legislature is in its final weeks of action before adjournment, and so far it has not passed any major legislation dealing with greenhouse gas reduction or environmental justice. Your representatives need to hear from you now. Find out how to take action.

Week of Action to Shut Down Construction of the Weymouth Compressor Station: Even as the COVID-19 pandemic has swept through the state, Enbridge has not halted construction of their compressor station in North Weymouth, putting the lives of residents at risk. From now through July 24, join Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station (FRRACS) to take action to stop Enbridge’s construction of their dangerous fracked-gas compressor station in North Weymouth. Check here for daily actions!

Tell BlackRock To Divest from Fossil Fuels: BlackRock is the world's leading investor in fossil fuels. Send a postcard urging CEO Larry Fink to be true to his words and "transform finance" in the face of the climate crisis.

Solidarity Opportunities

Call Your Legislators for the Guaranteed Housing Stability Act: Tens of thousands of families across Massachusetts will be at risk of eviction when the state's eviction moratorium expires on Aug 18. The bill HD.5166 will prevent a massive surge of unjust evictions and foreclosures due to COVID-related debt, prevent rent hikes and no-fault evictions as we recover, and help establish a Housing Stability & Recovery Fund to relieve small owners. Take action here.

Support the MA Indigenous Legislative Agenda: For 400 years, Massachusetts has ignored the rights and concerns of Indigenous people. Now is the time for the Legislature to pass these bills and stop ignoring Indigenous voices! We need to flood the State House with support emails by July 27. Learn more and take action here.

Email your Rep to Co-Sponsor the Immigrant’s Driver’s License Amendment to the Police Reform Bill: Urge your state legislators to pass An Act Relative to Work and Family Mobility (H.3012/S.2641) this legislative session. It would enable all qualified drivers, regardless of immigration status, to apply for a standard license. Similar legislation in 16 other states has lowered the number of uninsured drivers, reduced hit-and-run accidents, lowered insurance premiums for everyone, increased state revenue through license applications, and boosted state economies through increased auto and insurance sales. Take action here.

Invest in Our Recovery with Raise Up Massachusetts: Before the pandemic, the Massachusetts economy was working great for those at the top, but that prosperity was not reaching most of our people and communities. To relieve the economic damage to workers, families, and businesses, and to tackle racial inequities, we need a government response that rises to the needs of our communities. Sign the petition. Plus, join an Invest in Our Recovery launch rally: find a nearby action here.
