Dear John, As this challenging year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) community. Whether you are new to NIJC or a long-time supporter, your commitment and generosity make it possible for NIJC to stand up for our neighbors, strengthen our communities, and defend due process. The road ahead of us will not be easy, but I draw hope from the courage and resilience of the people we are privileged to represent, and from supporters like you who stand alongside NIJC. With your partnership, NIJC has continued to use every available tool to challenge unjust policies, defend immigrants’ rights, and push toward a more welcoming and humane country. I want to share a recent story that illustrates the power of your support.
NIJC became involved in this case when a daughter reached out after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arbitrarily detained her mother. The family, including young children, had been suffering for months while their mother was in an Indiana jail. NIJC attorneys filed a writ of habeas corpus in federal court, and the family was finally reunited. Here’s a message from the daughter: “I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the help and support you and your team have given my mom. Thanks to you, we were able to enjoy Thanksgiving with her food, and nothing could replace the feeling of love it brought to our family.” There is no substitute for being together with the people we love. NIJC will continue to fight every day to keep families together. Thank you again for standing with us and your community. We wish you and your loved ones a meaningful and hopeful holiday season.
