Hi John,
Like many Australians, I’ve felt deep sadness this week — mixed with anger and disbelief.
Disbelief that the Government and even the ABC would not call this attack what it was: Islamist terrorism.
Bondi should be a place of life, freedom and community.
Instead, we gathered among flowers to mourn innocent Australians killed by antisemitic hate and violence.
This was not just an attack on people. It was an attack on our values — on our freedom to live, worship, and gather safely.
This must never become normal.
Australians are united in grief. Now we must be united in action.
We owe it to the victims, their families, and future generations to confront hate early, strongly enforce our laws, and protect the society we have built.
The first duty of any government is to keep Australians safe.
Since October 2023, we have warned about the rising threat of antisemitism.
Those warnings were ignored by the Prime Minister. Hate was allowed to grow, and our institutions were targeted.
The Liberals and The Nationals have a clear, comprehensive action plan that should be implemented now. This includes:
- Passing legislation to give effect to the Special Envoy’s plan.
- Strengthening and modernising Australia’s counter-terrorism laws.
- A funding package for enhanced counter-terrorism response.
- Strip Australian dual citizenship from terrorists and hate preachers and bar extremists from entering Australia.
- End Labor’s policy of Self-Managed Returns for ISIS brides
I have called on the Prime Minister to recall Federal Parliament before Christmas so we can act now to start implementing these actions and help Australians, especially the Jewish community, feel safer.
There is no time to waste.
This is about who we allow into Australia.
Blaming gun laws is a distraction by the Albanese Government. This is not a gun problem. It is an Islamic extremist problem. The Prime Minister owes it to the victims to stop avoiding the truth about what caused the Bondi massacre.
As lawmakers, our job is clear: keep Australians safe, stop hate from being imported, and properly screen those entering our country.
Failing to recall Parliament and act on the Special Envoy’s recommendations shows weak leadership and a lack of courage.
The Bondi massacre has changed Australia forever.
Fifteen innocent lives were lost. We cannot let their deaths be in vain. We must act now.
Yours sincerely
