John,
Democracy always works best when leaders are listening to the people.
But lately, my own party has been caught up in too much politicking, too much grandstanding, and not enough listening. I think back to my own youth and how I found my way to the Democratic party.
I remember being a young man trying to make my way in the world. My parents were Republicans, and I was raised on the idea that if you worked hard, you could attain the American dream the way my family had. I believed that idea wholeheartedly, but it was difficult to reconcile my belief with the reality before me: people in our country could put in hours of backbreaking work and yet still have a difficult time finding success. How is that fair?
The simple answer is that it's not. I discovered in me a burning duty to make things right. Scripture tells us in Micah 6:8 that we are called to do justice, walk humbly, and love mercy. Part of living up to that call is pushing our elected officials to create just conditions under which everyone will thrive. It's those exact values that inspired me to join the Democratic Party.
It's time to come together as Democrats and return to being the party of the people; it's time to focus on creating opportunities for American families and rebuilding the trust we've lost with voters.
The American dream will not be achieved through cancel culture or by telling people what to believe. We will put our country on the right path by elevating working families and centering our fight around opportunity and justice.
If you agree with me, I hope you'll add your name to my petition today and share some insight with me on what your community is struggling with. I'm here to listen to your concerns. >> [link removed]
