Hi Poderosa,
We’ve been hearing a lot of questions about the health care policy fights over the past few months, and we came together during our final Community Zoom meeting earlier this week to help make sense of it all.
Yesterday evening, during our December Community Zoom Meeting, we received a special message from U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood, who shared the powerful ways that she’s working in Congress to extend the ACA’s tax credits – and why it matters for millions of families who could, very soon, face unimaginably high costs to their health insurance coverage. *Keep reading to see a video of U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood’s full message to MomsRising members and how to take action!*
We were also joined by Silvia Zenteno from Planned Parenthood, who walked us through how the recent federal health care policy rollbacks—like the HR1/Big Beautiful (read: ugly) Bill and the expiring ACA tax credits—are already negatively affecting patient access, what health centers have been experiencing on-the-ground, and the actions we can take together to support care for our communities. We also heard from Marilyn Cabrera from Young Invincibles, who broke down what’s happening with open enrollment (and why people should still go to healthcare.gov to get covered!), as well as where things currently stand with the looming expiration of the ACA enhanced tax credits, what it could mean for health care affordability for millions of people, and what Congress can do to protect access to affordable coverage.
We are very grateful for our MomsRising team members Kristin, Katrina, Felicia, Donna, Olivia, Catalina, and Diarra for organizing this powerful conversation! And the biggest thank you goes to every participant who listened, offered their experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and was in community with us.
Thank you!!

The U.S. House will vote on extending the ACA tax credits in January, and they’ve proven there’s majority support for a clean three-year extension. Protecting affordable health care for millions will then be in the hands of the U.S. Senate. Your voice is needed!
1. Text “ACAnow” to (888) 418-5699 to call your Senator now! Tell them to pass a clean extension of the expiring ACA tax credits!
2. Then, write a letter to the editor: Tell your U.S. Senators to extend the expiring ACA tax credits! *Or click this link: https://action.momsrising.org/lte/aca-lte-dec-2025/?t=15&utm_campaign=outreach&utm_medium=email&utm_source=actionkit&akid=21520%2E2840598%2Ep7A5hs*
3. After that, share your story: How are rising health care costs impacting you? *Or click this link: https://action.momsrising.org/survey/2025-hc-costs/?t=18&utm_campaign=outreach&utm_medium=email&utm_source=actionkit&akid=21520%2E2840598%2Ep7A5hs*
1. Deadlines! The deadline has passed for health care coverage to start on January 1st, but it’s not too late to get covered! Open enrollment for 2026 ends January 15th, so be sure to go to HealthCare.gov to check out your options if you need insurance.
2. Get Peace of Mind: Comprehensive coverage & consumer protections haven’t changed. Accidents can happen anytime—get peace of mind knowing you’re covered if the unexpected happens. Enroll today at HealthCare.Gov. Plans offered on HealthCare.Gov include comprehensive benefits such as preventive care, checkups, prescriptions, hospitalizations, mental health care, and more. When shopping for a plan on HealthCare.Gov, you cannot be charged more based on your health status.
When enrolling in an ACA plan, you will never be asked about your medical history. The only factors that influence the price of your plan are your geography, age, and whether or not you are a smoker.
3. Check your options. Plans and prices change every year, so it’s important to check out your options and see what’s available, even if you’ve looked before.
4. Virtual Assistant resources to help along the way. Enrolling in health coverage can be tricky for just about anyone; young or old, insured or uninsured!
