In case you missed this weekend's horrible news:

"Public Health Announces Huge Jump In New Cases of COVID-19 In Lane County" -NPR, July 18

But even as a record number of our friends and family succumb to the virus, Donald Trump still wants to take away our access to health care.

Trump has attacked affordable, universal health care nearly every day of his presidency. Just a few weeks ago, his administration urged the Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act completely, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

In the middle of the deadliest health crisis in decades, and facing the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression, this administration wants to add to the 5 million who have already lost their health care due to COVID and take health care away from more than 20 million Americans - during a pandemic - and with no backup.

My Republican opponent supports Trump's worst positions and policies, and he's in lockstep on this one, too. He believes that the "free market" should provide health care and a coronavirus vaccine. The "free market" has made health care too expensive for millions of Americans to afford and would do the same for a COVID vaccine. If few can afford a vaccine, how effective can it be?

Let me tell you what I believe: the for-profit health care industry shouldn't be calling the shots on who receives care, and who receives a vaccine.

I've long advocated for a single-payer health care plan that puts quality, affordable health care within reach of every American. I support universal health care coverage. With a universal health care plan, we can stop the insurance industry price-gouging and dictating who can and cannot afford to go see their doctor.

You can guarantee that I'll always defend the Affordable Care Act and fight to expand affordable, quality health care for everyone in this country.

In unity,

Peter
