John, imagine living in a flimsy tent. Your body trembles with each gust of wind. Your chest aches with every breath. Your hands and feet are numb. Watching your children—who shiver no matter how close you hold them—is even more agonizing.

This is the harsh reality for refugees and displaced families in the world's most fragile, crisis-stricken contexts, and they need support to survive.

Right now, millions of children and families in crisis zones like Ukraine, Gaza and Afghanistan are struggling to survive as temperatures drop.

The IRC is working to rush aid to people hit hardest—but we urgently need to expand our efforts in the coming weeks as temperatures continue to plummet and the danger for children and families grows.

You can help to keep families safe, dry and warm this winter. And starting now, your gift will be 3X MATCHED to make the largest impact possible »

After two years of war, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire—and the winter will bring even more suffering. For children whose bodies have been severely weakened by hunger, malnutrition, illness and trauma, every day will be a fight for survival.

Nights will be especially harrowing as temperatures drop as low as 45°F and children and families try to sleep in worn-out tents without warm clothing, blankets or adequate shelter.

As the war in Ukraine continues, children and families are bracing themselves for another brutal winter in crisis. Countless families are struggling to stay warm without adequate heat or electricity and without the income to buy warm clothing, fuel or firewood. Many are living in homes and buildings damaged by the conflict, with broken windows and walls that allow the cold to seep in.

And just last week, an attack completely destroyed stockpiles of essential humanitarian aid and left thousands of vulnerable people at even greater risk this winter.

In Afghanistan, the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck earlier this year has pushed families deeper into crisis. Entire villages were destroyed, and many are still struggling to survive and recover as temperatures plummet. Children and families will need critical assistance to get the nourishment they need to make it through the cold winter months.
