And launch webinar!

John -- The Movement for Black Lives and Center for Popular Democracy, Resource Generation's national partners, are advancing powerful electoral strategies both to defeat Trump and win the demands coming out of recent #DefendBlackLives uprisings and COVID mutual aid.

We have an urgent opportunity to support the electoral work necessary to help the BREATHE Act and #PeoplesBailouts across the country.

Here's what's coming up for Resource Generation Action in the next few weeks and how you can get involved:

1. Support the electoral work of RG national campaign partners, Center for Popular Democracy Action and Movement for Black Lives' Electoral Justice Project!

  • The Movement for Black Lives' (M4BL) Electoral Justice Project just introduced the BREATHE Act, which is what the demand to Defend Black Lives looks like as federal policy; M4BL describes it as a “modern day civil rights act"!
  • Center for Popular Democracy Action is focusing on continuing pressure around around the HEROES Act (the next round of stimulus) and fighting to have it uphold to the principles of the #PeoplesBailout. Senate Republicans are most likely going to try and pass some sort of bill this week and it’s crucial that we demand continuing the $600/week unemployment benefits and expanded resources for COVID testing and contact tracing; both are under threat by Trump and Mitch McConnell. Use the tools on the #PeoplesBailout site to tweet and email your Senators and representatives!

2. Check out RG's webinar on Wednesday, July 29th 7-8:30pm ET/4-5:30pm PT, 'Class Privilege and Electoral Politics'!

In this webinar we'll discuss things like:

  • What is the role of young people with access to wealth in advancing social & racial justice in electoral politics?
  • How do we navigate the dual truths that our political system is deeply broken, and that the outcomes of 2020 elections will directly impact all of our lives, especially poor and working-class people of color?
  • Knowing that wealthy people have an outsized share of power and control in the outcomes of elections, how do we as young people with wealth work against the agenda of the corporate elite and instead for the political power of poor and working-class people of color?

We don’t have all the answers, but we want to be in the questions and moving towards action together :)  Register for the webinar here

3. Are you part of an RG chapter and want to do electoral work?

  • Check out our RG Action FAQs, and check in with your chapter to see if you already have a c4 list. If you don’t, you can start one - email nora@resourcegeneration.org for this information.

We hope that during this time as we approach national elections during the dual pandemics of COVID and racist state violence, we at RG Action are reaching out to fellow young folks with access to wealth to provide some connection and guidance on how we can side with poor and working-class social movements and fight the owning-class capture of the democractic process!

Hope to see you online :)
