John, we’ve lost an icon. John Lewis was a civil rights hero. He was a Congressman for 33 years. He was, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, a “good troublemaker.” He was a man of faith. He was a Freedom Rider. He was an American.
John Lewis will be forever remembered as a fighter. From growing up as a sharecropper’s son in the Jim Crow south, to his standing as the moral compass of Congress—for over half a century, Lewis showed us the true meaning of courage and dignity. But, his fight is far from over. As millions march in the street, protesting racial injustice and Donald Trump’s failed leadership, it’s up to all of us to pick up the torch and carry on his legacy.
John, on November 3rd, we all need to remember the words of John Lewis:
“Wake up America! Wake up! For we cannot stop, and we will not and cannot be patient.”
Thank you, John Lewis.
