Hi John,

Last month, we celebrated 20 years of fighting (and mostly winning) for free speech. Remember how bad things were before we got started?

The Supreme Court had just upheld the McCain-Feingold law.

That law said you could go to jail if you ran an ad mentioning a politician’s name within 60 days of an election.

“Reformers” spoke gleefully of more bans and limits on grassroots advocacy…

Of having taxpayers pay for politicians’ election campaigns…

Of placing the Federal Election Commission under partisan control, free to target the opposing party with investigations and lawfare…

Since 2005, the Institute for Free Speech has been at the center of every single one of these battles to protect our rights to political advocacy.

Our research reports and analyses were, and still are, often the only ones published during these vital fights.

But as we continue to rack up victories in courtrooms, with regulators, and in legislatures, the demand for our work is increasing to a level we cannot keep up with at our current size.

Please help us continue our vital policy and litigation work needed to defend free political speech by donating today.

David Keating

President
