August 27, 2019 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will conduct a working visit to Cuba on August 28, 2019.
This will mark the third meeting this year between the Minister and her Cuban counterpart, Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers will continue their ongoing discussions on the crisis in Venezuela and the potential for Cuba to play a positive role toward a peaceful resolution. The two ministers will also discuss the United States’ decision to end the suspension of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
“There is an international convergence around the need for a peaceful transition in Venezuela that results in free and fair elections and the return to democracy. Canada has a long-standing relationship with Cuba, and this week’s visit will allow us to build on previous conversations held in Havana and Toronto.”
