Premiums are rising in state after state, and people are unsure whether Washington will step in or let a new cost spike hit at the start of the year.

 

There are still some bright spots. Leaders like Senator Bill Cassidy and Representatives Josh Gottheimer and Jen Kiggans are working across party lines on practical plans to prevent a premium cliff and begin tackling long-term health care costs. But it is not yet clear whether their efforts will break through the gridlock.
