HB 2100: The Well Washington Fund
This legislative session, the Statewide Poverty Action Network is supporting HB 2100: the Well Washington Fund.
HB 2100 proposes a tax paid by companies based on their payroll. For every employee the company pays over $130K, the company must pay a small percentage tax on the additional amount. This tax would create the Well Washington Fund, which would fill the funding gap for housing, healthcare, food programs like SNAP and higher education left by the federal government’s passage of HR1. This is a common-sense approach to filling a disastrous funding gap and supporting basic needs by asking wealthy corporations that profit from the labor of Washingtonians to pay their fair share.
Keep an eye out for HB 2100 and be ready to sign in PRO when the bill is heard during session.
