Dear John,

Today marks my last day as Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change and my departure from this organization, as we welcome COC’s new President and Chief Executive Officer Nadine Smith in the new year.

We have come a long way over the past few years, John, and it has been a privilege to be in this movement alongside you all. I hold sacred the mission and the promise of Color Of Change: to create a more human, less hostile world for Black people, and all people. And doing so with a core belief that racial justice is the strategy, and not just the outcome. Now more than ever, COC is essential to the continued fight against the neosegregationist agenda, putting in the slow work of building the bigger ‘we’ by being the political home and community people are seeking.

Over the past year, we have had a lot of positive momentum, and I am proud to be leaving COC entering its 20th anniversary year on solid footing. Together, we:

- Won YesOn50 in California and delivered a critical blow against the Trump regime and win for democracy. We are a leading force in the national redistricting fight, fighting to protect Black political power in recognition of the powerful role we play in protecting our democracy.
- Organized nearly 60 events to build community with our members and to mobilize folks to fight back against the Trump regime’s neosegregationist agenda—from Georgia to Michigan, and from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., we are on the ground fighting for our communities.
- Turned tax and budget justice into a racial justice demand, taking our members directly to Capitol Hill to fight against cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, meeting with staff from over 100 members of Congress. We’ve shown that affordability and tax justice can be a motivating and winning strategy to protect Black families and our democracy by rewriting the rules of the distribution of money and power in our country.

I am honored to have led the COC team through such a historic moment in the fight for racial justice and I am proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together. My commitment to winning for Black people, and all people remains stronger than ever. I will be rooting for Color Of Change from a different vantage point, and I look forward to seeing the evolution of this organization’s next chapter. And that chapter requires dedicated members like you.

With that in mind, I’m asking for the final time—will you make a contribution of $25 or more today to welcome in COC’s next era of impact and ensure that this organization can continue to build on all the progress we have made possible together?

Thank you again for all that you do, and for the important role that you have played in the story of COC.

In Solidarity and Until Justice Is Real,
