HUGE NEWS: We are seeing a sizable groundswell of new support for Medicare for All in Congress, and we need your help to keep the momentum going!
Four new members of Congress have officially signed on as cosponsors of the Medicare for All Act: Sen. Tina Smith (MN), Rep. April McClain Delaney (MD-09), Rep. Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), and Rep. Julie Johnson (TX-32). This is in addition to Sen. Chris Van Hollen (MD) and Rep. Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07), who signed on last month!
This surge of support for Medicare for All is a clear sign of the shift in energy we’ve all been feeling recently. The momentum is real — and growing.
And it’s coming at a critical time. The Senate just took up two competing health care proposals — a three-year ACA extension from Democrats and an expansion of Health Savings Accounts from Republicans. Both failed, showing once again that while mainstream Democrats are offering stopgap protections that are necessary but still temporary, Republicans have no real plan. But we know the truth: short-term band-aids aren’t enough. The only solution is Medicare for All.
And it’s clear that more members of Congress each day agree with us. That’s why today we’re driving calls to Congress renewing our demand for Medicare for All — and your member of Congress and senators need to hear from you.
Use our hotline 202-858-1717 to call your U.S. Representative, and 202-519-0494 to call your U.S. Senators NOW, and feel free to follow our short script:
Hi, my name is _______. I am a constituent and I’m a nurse/other health care worker/patient. I’m calling today in support of Medicare for All. Our health care system is failing patients and providers, and incremental fixes aren’t enough. Support for Medicare for All is broad, and growing by the day. If you are not yet a cosponsor of the Medicare for All Act, I urge you to sign on. If you are already a cosponsor, thank you — and please continue championing Medicare for All as the real solution to this health care crisis.
Every call matters. Every new cosponsor moves us closer. Let’s flood their phone lines and keep building this momentum for the care we all deserve.
In solidarity,
National Nurses United
