John, right to the point: Georgia’s State Election Board recently approved a proposal to recommend that state lawmakers ban "no-excuse" mail-in voting. The board has now officially recommended that the Georgia state legislature change laws that were first adopted back in 2005. This would effectively end absentee voting in Georgia if the legislature passes a bill following the recommendation when they reconvene in January for their 2026 legislative session. 

A record number of Georgians voted by mail-in ballot during the 2020 presidential election due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Georgia, however, became ground zero for the Big Lie after Trump lost the state in that election and blamed his loss on unfounded accusations of rampant voting fraud, particularly among mail-in ballots.

Even so: Multiple investigations have found no evidence of widespread voting fraud in the 2020 election in Georgia despite widespread use of absentee voting. That hasn't stopped Trump's efforts, however, because his MAGA Department of Justice recently sued Fulton County (home to Atlanta) for voting data related to that election. 

When you put it all together, these are blatant attempts to skew the 2026 election before a vote is even cast by picking and choosing which Georgia votes get to count.

Severely limiting who can vote by mail isn't the only change these vengeful partisans are pursuing. The board also voted to recommend that the Legislature limit the amount of time overseas and military voters have to return absentee ballots. Currently, mail-in ballots cast by Georgia voters will be counted if they are received within three days of Election Day, so long as they are postmarked before the election. The new recommendation is that the legislature only count ballots from overseas voters that are received by 7 p.m. on election day.

You read that correctly -- the state Election Board is so against mail-in voting that they're willing to toss the legitimate ballots of our men and women in uniform for postal delays.

As for Fulton County? This is a clear partisan action by Trump's DOJ to disenfranchise and suppress voters who they don't think will cast a ballot for their candidates. Every eligible voter they wrongly kick off the rolls or find a way to invalidate their ballot is one less vote their chosen candidate needs to win.

We need to speak with one loud, clear voice and tell Georgia's and every state legislature: We won't stand for any of these suppressive policies. Not now, not ever.
