John, I’ll be honest: I don’t want to send a million emails. But if you care about our military, this one is important.

In communities around our country, Trump is trying to illegally deploy our Servicemembers under misleading pretexts to intimidate their fellow Americans in their own neighborhoods. Last week, I spearheaded a Senate hearing on those domestic deployments to finally get some answers for the American people.

Military service, even in our own communities, involves risks. Our Servicemembers accept those risks knowingly and selflessly.

So we better be damn sure that the missions we send them on are the right ones.

If we stand by while Donald Trump pursues another irresponsible, open-ended campaign with no defined mission, we fail our troops.

Look, one of the proudest moments in my life was the first time I raised my hand to swear my oath to the Constitution as a member of the Illinois Army National Guard.

I cherished every single day that I got to call myself a Soldier.

And it’s because I love our military so deeply that I refuse to let anyone—including the President—abuse it for their own gain.
