Team,
There are nine "Johns" in the Senate right now. There have only been five Black women — ever.
While we're proud Lisa is among the short list of Black women who have been elected to the Senate, we're sad and frankly, disappointed, that — almost 250 years into our nation’s history — that number is still so low.
Having people in the Senate who look like the rest of America matters.
It's how resolutions like Black Women's Equal Pay Day, introduced by Senators Lisa Blunt Rochester and Angela Alsobrooks, get passed. Or how we make sure we advocate for Black maternal healthcare. And it's how we pass legislation honoring the late great John Lewis, expanding voting rights, and protecting people of color.
We need more women of color in the places where important decisions are being made. That's why we've set a goal to raise $15,000 to help elect more Black women!
But here's a hard truth: Black women raise 1/3 of the funds their white counterparts will. That already puts us at a disadvantage we can't afford.
We're urgently asking: will you chip in $10 or more today to help us elect more Black women to the Senate?
