Dear John,
First and foremost, we hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy
during these challenging times. As the pandemic continues to evolve, so does our
lifesaving work. Today, I'd like to update you on what HIAS is doing to help
refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, where measures to curb the spread of
COVID-19 have made it difficult to reach those who need our aid most.
For months, over 17,500 asylum seekers and refugees have been living in
overcrowded and unsanitary conditions on the island of Lesvos with limited
ability to social distance and little access to adequate health care. Another
15,300 asylum seekers have been trapped in the Moria refugee reception center on
Lesvos, where they remain on lockdown, while the rest of the country has begun
to resume normal life and reopened to tourism. With little outside assistance
and few protection mechanisms available, Moria has become a dangerous place,
particularly for women and children.
Despite these challenges, HIAS Greece is doing everything we can to provide
refugees and asylum seekers with the vital assistance they urgently need. We
know this is a difficult time – but if you are in a position to help, your gift
would mean everything to the families who have fled unimaginable dangers in
search of freedom and safety:
Please make a gift of $18 or more today to provide
critical aid to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece and around the world – so
they can rebuild their lives free from violence and persecution.

HIAS Greece is providing assistance to asylum seekers with their asylum claims
as the current system is complex and difficult for them to navigate. HIAS also
provides referrals for services such as medical care, and is a leader in
advocacy, speaking out on the rights of the forcibly displaced and their need
for legal protection.
HIAS is answering the call to help the refugees and asylum seekers who have left
everything behind in their quest for safety. The need for our crucial assistance
has never been greater. That’s why we’re asking for your support:
If you can, please make a gift of $18 or more now to
support refugees and asylum seekers as they build new lives during this
immensely challenging time.
