Hi John, I wanted to catch you before the end of the day.

I know this is an especially busy time of year for a lot of us, and I hate to interrupt your holiday preparations — but in a race this competitive and consequential, there can be few days off.

Even as we celebrate the holiday season, our election is heating up.

The national Republican Party has made a clear calculation about this U.S. Senate seat: They know that it’s key to holding their majority and maintaining one-party control in Washington, so they will spend any amount of money trying to defeat us.

John, it’s already started. Far-right PACs and dirty money groups aligned with the GOP are already spending hundreds of thousands against me. Experts think that by the end of all this, it could even be the first U.S. Senate race with a total cost of more than $1 billion.

In the short term, our opponent and his allies are going to be on the lookout for our financial filing report due at the end of this month to determine where and when to pour in even more cash.

That’s why this is our most important fundraising deadline yet, John. The strength we are able to show on our end-of-quarter filing report, and whether or not we reach our one million dollar goal, will have a real impact on what we face in the coming months.

We need to have the strongest possible start to this election year, so we need to hit this goal and keep pace with our opponent’s big-money machine.
