Movement family,
The cruel wannabe dictator who occupies the Oval Office has launched a terror campaign against our immigrant neighbors.
And his cruelty is making all of us less safe.
At the direction of the Trump White House, rogue, masked federal agents — glorified bullies masquerading as public servants — are exacting harm on my constituents and my community.
They are ripping children from their parents' arms. Pepper spraying moms in parking lots. Pulling teachers and childcare workers from classrooms in front of desperate kids.
Families are frantically trying to locate their loved ones who have been hauled away to detention centers; detention centers which are no more than makeshift for-profit prisons.
This is unacceptable. No one is truly safe in Donald Trump’s America.
Just recently, amid his shameful, cowardly attacks on America’s Somali community, and my sister-in-service Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in particular, he said he’d “absolutely” want to “de-naturalize” immigrants who’ve become American citizens.
Make no mistake: This is illegal. His cruelty and lawlessness know no bounds.
Masked ICE agents recently descended on a car wash in our district and abducted nine members of our community. A 67-year-old man whose medications were withheld for days. A diabetic mother whose condition worsened with improper nourishment. A daughter who was abducted alongside her mom and uncle, concerned about leaving her elderly grandma without care.
Four of these workers spent their birthdays sleeping on cold floors.
We’ve successfully advocated for seven of the nine to be released and returned home to their families — but we won’t stop fighting until all are released and this cruelty is put to an end.
We cannot allow the hostile acts of this administration to be normalized. We have to condemn them, resist and reject them at every turn.
To our immigrant families: You belong here. I will never stop fighting for you, your rights, and your dignity.
In these trying times I am not defeated. I’m fortified and resolved to fight back — and I’m grateful that I’m not in this fight alone.
