Calls for a military raid against a CO prison. Trump has thrown down the gauntlet and is setting off a full blown constitutional crisis.
John,
What’s unfolding in Colorado right now has the real potential of turning violent.
Trump just pardoned Tina Peters, a former Mesa Colorado county clerk serving a nine year state sentence for letting unauthorized operatives access voting machines in an attempt to prop up Trump’s 2020 election lie.
Presidents do not have the power to pardon state crimes. Trump did it anyway and has thrown down the gauntlet setting off a full blown Constitutional crisis.
Colorado is refusing to comply. And now Peter’s lawyers are openly calling for Trump to order a military raid to break her out of state custody. And right at the center of this chaos? Lauren Boebert.
She is leading the charge to free Peters and is pouring gasoline on a situation that has the real potential to spiral into violence.
It gets worse.
MAGA extremist podcaster—Joe Oltmann, a key Boebert ally, resident of her district, and fundraiser for her —has publicly called for the execution of Governor Jared Polis and Attorney General Phil Weiser for not releasing Peters.
This is headed somewhere very dark. When you excuse crimes, undermine elections, and glorify political violence, people get hurt. This is exactly how democracies crack, piece by piece, as extremists like Boebert test how far they can go.
Trisha Calvarese is the Democrat running against Lauren Boebert and in 2024, when our campaign went head to head with her, she had the best performance a Democrat has ever had in the district, outperforming Kamala Harris by 6 points.
Trisha is running because Colorado, and this country, cannot survive leaders who cheer on chaos, defend criminals, and flirt with violence to stay in power. We must defeat Boebert and drive this brand of extremism out of office before someone gets killed.
