| Hello John, The Government Accountability Office has just released a new report on Obamacare that should be the final nail in the coffin of extending the higher Obamacare subsidies that were first enacted to help Americans get through Covid. But voting has already begun on extending them (more on that below), and nothing is guaranteed! You’ve heard from us many times on this subject, and one of our major arguments against the subsidies was that they were an invitation to fraud. The GAO study backs up that claim. Get this: GAO created fictitious identities with fake Social Security numbers and was still able to obtain subsidized Obamacare coverage. This is how they’re allowed to spend your tax dollars, and with little accountability. Here’s how GAO went about proving this fraud: - For plan year 2025, GAO submitted 20 fictitious applicants for Obamacare coverage, with 19 receiving subsidized coverage.
- Eighteen remained active as of September 2025, with some $12,300 per month going directly to insurance companies for the fake applicants.
These findings reveal a broken verification process and confirm fraud concerns, but they also show widespread misuse of Social Security numbers and how easy it is for even dead people to get approved for Obamacare subsidies. The fraud is excessive: - In fact, one single SSN was used on over 125 insurance policies in 2023, the equivalent of 71 years of coverage, and 66,000 SSNs had more than a year’s worth of subsidized coverage in 2024, highlighting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ failure to block duplicate applications.
- Furthermore, the investigation found 58,000 SSNs belonging to dead people, resulting in $94 million paid to insurers!
Here is the bottom line: The GAO’s report shows how unscrupulous agents and brokers are illegally gaming the system and lining their pockets by getting fake applicants approved for Obamacare subsidies. Fraud was always a problem, but it was supercharged by Joe Biden’s inflated Covid-era subsidies and his goal of getting as many Americans as possible on government health care. We’d be crazy to extend these inflated subsidies, which are rife with waste, fraud, and abuse. Here’s what’s happening now: There are just a few weeks left until Biden’s inflated subsidies expire. The Senate voted yesterday on a Democratic plan to extend these inflated subsidies for three years (part of the deal that Senate Republicans had to make to get the Democrats to end their government shutdown), but it did not get the 60 votes needed. However, that isn’t the end of it. There are further votes ahead in both the House and the Senate. So it’s critical that Congress hears from you NOW! So please contact your elected officials and let them know that you oppose extending the Obamacare subsidies. It’s easy, and we’ll walk you through it. |
