The Democrats’ temporary “COVID credits” health care scheme – that they themselves manufactured and stamped an end date on – needs to be exposed even further. Ever since they passed the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” in 2022 that extended these temporary credits, they’ve hidden the fact that these temporary credits had a cemented end date. Then, they used these expiring, temporary credits as a pretext for shutting down the government. That end date was kept hidden for a reason – isn’t it interesting that they were dead silent on this issue until the last second before that expiration date came? How interesting indeed.

Claims have been made that if these temporary credits were to expire, the health care premiums of every American would skyrocket. But here’s a little tidbit of information that’s not being talked about enough: only seven percent of Americans enrolled in an Obamacare plan would experience an increase in their premiums if that were to happen. Seven percent. What would happen if these temporary credits were extended? The health care premiums for those who make up the seven percent would be decreased by a paltry four percent.

Now, I’m sure some will say that a four percent drop in the cost of premiums for this seven percent of enrollees sounds great, and that Congress should drop everything and pass an immediate extension of these temporary credits. Not so fast. As you may recall, I previously pointed out that the cost of premiums under Obamacare have been skyrocketing for years – since 2014, benchmark premiums for Obamacare plans have jumped by 80%. The four percent drop, if those temporary credits were extended, would be rendered entirely moot.

Of course, we cannot forget about the fraud associated with these temporary credits. Here’s an excerpt from my newsletter to you on September 19th that highlighted this very issue:

Per the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), in 2025 alone, 2.3 million ineligible individuals received these temporary credits. Why? The Biden-Harris administration took a hatchet to eligibility safeguards, weakened eligibility verification, reduced tax reporting, and allowed insurance brokers to game the system by switching enrollees’ plans monthly. This led to “phantom enrollees” – millions of people who never actually received health care, meaning that insurance companies gobbled up premiums paid for by the American taxpayer. For context, $35 billion was spent on approximately 4.6 million “phantom enrollees” in 2024 who never received health care.

As you can see, these temporary credits and Obamacare overall, are abject failures. But what’s the solution? Democrats and the media always claim that Republicans never had an alternative to Obamacare – but that’s a lie. Republicans have always offered alternatives, and as time has gone on, we’ve still presented alternatives. Democrats want to simply gloss over these glaring problems and continue propping up and defending a broken system that has never served Americans. Republicans want to enact substantive, forward-looking reforms that give Americans the choice, flexibility, and affordability that they have never been able to find through Obamacare.

Here is a set of viable options that Republicans believe will serve the American people better, and will help lower the cost of premiums that continue to skyrocket under Obamacare:

  • Association Health Plans
  • Choice Accounts
  • Health Savings Accounts
  • Cost Sharing Reductions
  • Codifying the Trump Administration’s rules to fix the Unaffordable Care Act
  • Pharmacy Benefit Manager Reforms
  • Price Transparency
  • Provider-owned Hospitals

A broken system will never fix itself through osmosis – that’s just the truth. The alternatives that Republicans have been looking into for months offer a more concrete pathway for the American people that does not make lofty, unrealistic promises like we’ve all heard from those who support Obamacare. As the Speaker said when discussing the Democrat health care plan, “You cannot be an arsonist and a firefighter at the same time.” I look forward to updating you further on the progress that Republicans will make on health care for every American.

 Have a blessed weekend,
