2025 Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to our 2025 True Texas Scholarship winners! This year we had 32 entries — three times more than any other year, and all of them were stellar.  We painstakingly narrowed it down to 10 finalists.

After getting it down to the top 10, we had to dig and dig to pick the top 4 to receive prizes. Who added personal application? Who had an original idea, insight, or thoughts? Who wrote in a style that engaged the audience to keep reading?  We did not judge based on grammar, errors, or presentation style as this was not a school project.  Finally we were able to pick the top 4.  They are:

  1. First Prize:  Hazel Roberts (NW Harris) – American Gold Eagle 1/10 oz coin (roughly worth $475) + $500
  2. Second Prize:  Josie Johns (Collin) – US Morgan Silver Dollar + US Peace Silver Dollar (roughly worth $50 each) + $350
  3. Third Prize:  Myles Peeler (Tarrant) – 3rd time for him to win a True Texas Scholarship! – US Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar (roughly worth $40) + $250
  4. Fourth Prize:  Benjamin Quiroz (Collin) – 5oz silver piece in the shape of Texas (roughly worth $300)

But even then, we changed our minds over and over, recognizing how well-done and well-thought-out these essays were with unique ideas. We thought the remaining 6 were too good to not recognize, so we made an Honorable Mention category and will recognize them before an audience as well. They are (in alphabetical order):

All 10 winners will be recognized and receive their prizes at their local True Texas Project satellite meeting in the New Year.  To read their essays, click on their names.  You can also read all about our scholarship program here.  We offered 3 different subjects to choose from, and interestingly, half came in on Charlie Kirk, while the other half chose to write about US Economics.  There was one entry on the 3rd topic, Jeffrey Epstein.  Because the 1st two topics were so evenly split and because they really could not be fairly judged against each other (one was an opinion piece and one was a research paper), we chose 5 finalists from each category.  Those 5 were reduced to 2 to create our 4 prize winners.
