Hi John, it’s Hannah Pingree.
If your inbox looks anything like mine, I’m sure it’s full of requests for donations before this month’s critical end-of-quarter deadline. I know we reach out a lot around these moments, so I wanted to take a minute to explain why these deadlines are SO important.
All campaigns across the country, up and down the ballot, submit their fundraising numbers at regular intervals. Federal candidates submit to the Federal Elections Committee (FEC), and state candidates submit to their respective state officials – for us, that’s the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics.
You may be familiar with the federal deadlines every three months, but here in Maine we do things differently and file only twice this year in June and December. That means we’ve had
six months without knowing how much any of our opponents have raised.
These numbers will go public once filed – allowing our opponents, pundits, election experts and interest groups to take a look behind the curtain and see what we’ve raised and what we’ve spent – it’s a pretty good indicator of the strength of our campaign.
The deadline at the end of the month is our last one of this year, and will be the fundraising numbers we kickoff 2026 with. The more donations we have, the more it signals strength and support for our campaign. So whether you can give $10 or $100 – every donation matters.
If you can pitch in a contribution of any amount to help us finish the month strong, and file the strongest report possible, it would mean the world to me, John.
