January 14, 3 - 5 PM IBEW Local 58 Zero Net Energy Center, Detroit
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Office of Climate and Energy and the Office of the Environmental Justice Public Advocate invite community members, advocates, and partners to help shape how justice and equity are built into Michigan’s climate work.
The public is invited to participate in this in-person engagement session on Wednesday, January 14, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the IBEW Local 58 Zero Net Energy Center (1358 Abbott Street, Detroit, MI 48226). The event is free, and pre-registration is required. The session will be a combination of presentations and breakout discussions. Snacks and beverages will be available, and free on-site parking is available.
During this event, Dr. Tony Reames, Associate Professor and Director of the University of Michigan (UM) School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) Detroit Sustainability Clinic, and Liesl Clark, Director of Climate Action Engagement at the UM SEAS, will lead an activity to receive input and feedback on how to elevate communities and environmental justice priorities across Michigan.
This event is a follow-up to the Collaborative Planning for Just and Equitable Climate Action session held in October 2024, which developed strategies for incorporating environmental justice into actions to meet the statewide goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan. Input received in 2024 and 2025 helped inform the state's Comprehensive Climate Action Plan. This plan includes Michigan’s updated Greenhouse Gas Inventory and describes actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a healthier and more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable Michigan for all Michiganders. Now we need your help to identify how to make these actions and their benefits real in communities impacted by climate and environmental justice concerns.
