Republicans know exactly what they are doing. If working families feel the squeeze, they think they can force Democrats into accepting deep cuts to the programs people rely on every day. It’s political hostage-taking, plain and simple — and it’s happening at the expense of people who just want to keep their families insured.
I’m fighting to extend these critical subsidies, but that isn’t enough. We need universal healthcare because healthcare shouldn’t be a luxury. No parent should have to decide between paying for insurance or groceries. No senior should have to ration medication because fascist politicians in Washington want to cut healthcare to fund tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.
