This week, Congress is negotiating whether millions of Americans will be able to afford healthcare next year, and some members are trying to hijack those negotiations to attack reproductive freedom.

They are threatening to let healthcare premiums skyrocket unless states agree to ban abortion coverage in every Affordable Care Act plan that receives tax credits.

This is an unlawful attempt to force a nationwide abortion ban through the back door.

I joined a coalition of 20 states urging Congress to reject this dangerous proposal because it violates state sovereignty, ignores existing law, and puts millions of people at risk.

And we know the stakes: states that banned abortion after Roe fell have seen sharp increases in sepsis, infant deaths, and pregnancy-related deaths.

I’ve been fighting the Trump administration’s attacks on reproductive care, including their unlawful attempt to defund Planned Parenthood, which we successfully blocked.
