John, young people have officially turned on Donald Trump.
Trump’s approval with young people plummeted by 46 points in a recent poll.
Another poll shows that nearly half of registered voters want to see Democrats take back Congress. But there’s a troubling stat that should light a fire under us:
Right now with young Americans, Donald Trump’s approval rating is one point HIGHER than Democrats in Congress. That’s right — Democrats are JUST AS unpopular as the president!
Why is this? It's because young voters' views are driven much more by frustration than party loyalty. From devastating student loans to an over 10% Gen Z unemployment rate, our generation is drowning. Last election cycle, young voters reached for the hand they thought would bring them to the surface fastest. As this poll shows, millions are now realizing Trump and Republicans aren't throwing them a life preserver — they are tossing them an anchor. They’ve raised prices, destroyed the job market, demolished research universities and opportunities to innovate, and rents are higher than ever.
Young voters are starting to show signs they are willing to give Democrats a chance. While it certainly has a lot to do with Trump's total failure to lower prices, we also believe it has to do with young voters seeing people like Zohran Mamdani who come to them with a real plan to truly improve their lives instead of saying: “Hey, I know you’re 10 feet underwater. But the Republicans want to push you down to 11, so you should vote for me! And maybe I’ll pull you up to just 9 feet underwater!” Young voters aren’t accepting being underwater anymore. We want to be able to breathe. We want to be at the surface.
That’s where Leaders We Deserve comes in. We’re here to bring fresh blood into the party. We need more leaders who have actually paid rent in this century, who have been students in active shooter drills, who know what it's like to pay off student debt in today’s economy, and leaders who care most about the climate crisis but they will actually have to live with the effects of it. It doesn’t matter how poll tested a message is if the messenger is not a credible source on the subject. We need a new generation of leaders who can properly represent our generation in government because they are living the same struggles.
