So, Governor DeWine has SB 293 on his desk after it was passed by the Super Majority Republican Ohio House and Senate. The Bill says ALL ballots must be in the BOE's hands by Election Day, not after. What a concept? You mean Election Day actually means it's Election day???
The SB 293 would put Ohio Elections in line with 34 other Red and Blue States that have the same end date for their elections. More importantly, SB 293 preemptively stops a potential disaster that could really screw up Ohio elections if the US Supreme Court rules in June that ALL Federal Ballots must be received by Election Day. What is that about? Well, if Governor DeWine does not sign this bill and the Supreme Court rules in June that ALL Federal Ballots must be received by Election Day, then next November we will be in a situation where current Ohio law allows mail in ballots to arrive on Friday, after the Tuesday election, but ONLY the State and Local votes will count NOT THE FEDERAL VOTES!!! Can you image the BOE having to separate those votes out of each post election day ballot received and the confusion that will cause in counting them?? Not to mention how confusing that would be to the public and how angry some will be to learn that their votes for US Senate and US House would not count!!!
Who wants that??? Apparently the Dems that's who. Big Surprise. They are urging DeWine to Veto SB 293 because getting your fricking ballot in by election day "creates a barrier to participation" don't you know!!! Yea right.
