We are thrilled to announce The Progressive List, a brand-new project created by activist and former Congressional candidate Nabilah Islam.

What is The Progressive List?

Simply put, our mission is to elect progressive candidates at the Local, State, and Federal levels through direct action.

For too long, the progressive community has been disjointed and disorganized. Far too often, that’s resulted in less top-tier professional support for campaigns, less money raised, and fewer elections won.

How do we plan to change that?

Our action plan has three items we believe are missing from the broader progressive movement today:

1) Raise money directly for endorsed campaigns. And do it early. Early Money IS Like Yeast, after all. By injecting cash into progressive campaigns from the beginning, those campaigns can invest to win and build professional operations. Too often, progressive endorsements and money come in late to “save” long-shot progressive candidacies, instead of propelling our candidates to become early frontrunners.

2) Grow an institution to help progressive candidates build professional campaigns from the ground up. That means helping candidates hire talented staff and consultants early, make connections to allied organizations, organize a successful call time operation, and more.

3) Build a National Progressive Donor Table to run independent expenditures. Often progressive organizations will do small ad buys or donate the services of a field organizer to help campaigns. While it’s true that every little bit helps, marginal, one-off expenditures can’t match the strength of a sustained, coordinated donor organization. The Progressive List will partner with other progressive organizations to help streamline endorsements and pool resources into running meaningful independent expenditure ad campaigns to help put our candidates over the top.

What does that mean for you?

We can’t count on the political establishment to give us a seat at the table, so we’re going to build our own.

Grassroots support is the backbone of the progressive movement in America. Without a strong grassroots network of supporters signing petitions, calling their representatives, and yes, chipping in $5 or $10 dollars at a time, countless progressive campaigns would flounder and fail.

For the progressive movement to succeed, we need to build a broad, intersectional coalition with real political power. And for that, we need you.
