Every once in a while, someone emerges from the Far Right who isn’t just another extremist voice – but a warning sign. Nick Fuentes is one of those people. He praises Hitler. He calls for violence against women, LGBTQ+ people, and non-Christians. He dreams of a fascist United States ruled by white nationalists. And instead of being pushed to the fringes, he’s been getting invited onto major conservative platforms and even into Donald Trump’s inner circle.
Through all of this, People For’s Right Wing Watch has been sounding the alarm. We’ve tracked him. We’ve monitored him. We’ve reported on him – for years. Long before the press caught on, long before politicians started scrambling to explain their ties to him, Right Wing Watch built the archive that makes clear exactly who he is.
And that is precisely why Fuentes is lashing out at us now. Our documentation of his far-right extremism is interfering with his campaign to rebrand himself by whitewashing his record.
In a recent interview, Fuentes claimed we ran a “smear campaign” to make him “seem hateful.” But his public reputation as a hateful bigot does not come from rumor or distortion. It comes from his own broadcasts – hours of footage of him praising dictators, using slurs, mocking Jewish people, calling for executions, and outlining an authoritarian Christian nationalist movement. We didn’t invent any of it. We documented it.
If you need more proof of why this work matters, just look back to 2022. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Donald Trump dined at Mar-a-Lago with Kanye West and Nick Fuentes – a meeting that shocked the nation once people understood who Fuentes really was.
And how did they understand it?
Because they turned to Right Wing Watch.
We had already reported that Fuentes was traveling with Ye that day. We immediately resurfaced years of footage from our archive showing the reality behind his public persona – the racism, the antisemitism, the misogyny, the authoritarianism. Within days, more than 100 media outlets cited our work. Our reporting helped the country grasp the full implications of Trump choosing to sit down for dinner with a white nationalist.
Rachel Maddow said it bluntly that week on her show: Right Wing Watch is “a fire alarm system for the whole country” and People For the American Way provides a “great public service.”
That wasn’t an exaggeration. That’s the role our monitoring plays in moments of national importance. This is one of those moments. Fuentes is using friendly right-wing media outlets to boost his influence and infect the entire conservative movement with his dangerous ideology.
Which brings us back to Fuentes’s latest attacks.
He isn’t angry because we lied about him. He’s angry because we’ve told the truth – consistently, accurately, and with evidence. He’s angry because documenting his own words makes it harder for him to rebrand himself, harder for politicians to quietly align with him, and harder for his ideology to seep into the mainstream without scrutiny.
His outrage is a measure of our effectiveness.
Because the truth is this: Nick Fuentes has the reputation he has because he earned it – in public, on video, day after day. We simply refused to let the country look away.
