John, we keep us
safe. In times of stress and duress, it’s our community that we can depend
on.
That’s why today, I want to take a moment to uplift The Coalition for
Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). They’re an LA-based organization that is
dedicated to empowering immigrants to push policies that promote freedom
of movement, full human rights, and the vigorous civic action that
strengthens this democracy.
They’ve been doing this work for over 35 years, and during these
especially horrific raids and deportations that ICE is conducting in Los
Angeles on Trump’s orders, [ [link removed] ]they’ve set up an ICE watch, rapid response
network, and hotline.
When I was 15, my family was ripped apart when my father was deported, and
my sisters and I were raised by our single mother in northeast LA. I know
personally what it’s like to feel unwelcome in this country.
I know what it means to live through the trauma of family separation and
deportation.
But what I also know beyond the shadow of a doubt is that America will
ALWAYS be a home for immigrants. Despite the violent attacks by the Trump
administration, immigrants’ contributions to building this country through
our labor, our culture, our vibrancy, and sacrifice can’t be ignored.
I’m running for Congress because I vow to protect the rights of every
single Angeleno. I promise to stand up against ICE in any way I can.
Let’s protect one another,
John.
In solidarity,
Angela
