John,
The Trump administration is trying to supercharge its deportation tools by feeding more personal data into the Department of Homeland Security’s “Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements” (SAVE) database―a massive system already being used to target immigrants and flag people for wrongful voter purges. Now the Social Security Administration (SSA) wants to double down on its ongoing attacks on sensitive data1 to plug its own records into the DHS system.
There’s a public comment period open until this Friday (December 12) and we need to raise our voices to object to this misuse of our Social Security information.
Submit a public comment to SSA today and oppose the expansion of the SAVE database.

This data sharing is part of a larger effort in the Trump administration to supercharge its deportation machine. Only a few weeks ago, a federal judge halted the IRS from sharing taxpayer information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while the Department of Health and Human Services announced it is also sharing information with ICE2 and the Agriculture Secretary is threatening states with loss of funds if they don’t share data on SNAP recipients.3
Some states, like Florida and Texas, are using the information in the SAVE database to question the citizenship of some voters and purge them from the rolls, despite the database being prone to breaches, misuse, and erroneous matches. We can’t emphasize this enough: SSA’s system was not designed to track citizenship or voting status. Putting more Social Security data into the DHS system will give ICE and other agencies more tools to track, target, and deport immigrants while risking unwarranted loss of Social Security numbers or legal work status for millions of people.
We must fight back. Submit an official comment today and tell the Social Security Administration not to cooperate with ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.
Thank you for all you do,
Deborah Weinstein
