The Supreme Court just bowed down to Donald Trump and allowed Greg Abbott and Donald Trump’s racially gerrymandered maps to stand in Texas.

Let’s be clear about what these maps do: They were designed to dilute and silence Black and Latino voters. They carve communities apart based on race. They hand Donald Trump the extra Congressional districts he demanded. And they merge my Congressional district with another.

Now, the conservative majority on the Court has chosen to rubber-stamp that discrimination. I’m outraged, John. We have politicians in black robes making political decisions — and they just gave Greg Abbott and Donald Trump the green light to silence voters in our state.

Enough is enough. This cannot become the status quo for politicians — redrawing maps as they please to rig elections in their favor.

It’s time for a federal ban on gerrymandering — because no governor, no political party, and certainly no wannabe dictator should be able to rig maps to hold on to power.

Right now, Trump and Abbott are feeling emboldened by getting away with suppressing voters. They’re going to try this same scheme in red states across the country so Trump can hold onto power after 2026.

But the only thing strong enough to stop them is a movement of people who refuse to be silenced.

That’s where you and I come in.

I am going to fight relentlessly against gerrymandering, against Trump’s attacks on voting rights, and for our democracy. But I need you with me because a movement is only as powerful as those behind it.
