Hello John,
Two months ago, congressional Democrats vowed that they would keep the
government closed unless Congress rescued Joe Biden’s Obamacare subsidy scheme.
They eventually caved, but that does not mean the danger has passed.
It’s still a live issue, and one that we all need to work together to stop.
Democrats managed to extract a promise to vote again on these subsidies in
December.
First, a little refresher on the issue:
* The bumped-up Obamacare subsidies were initially passed as part of the
American Rescue Act to help Americans get through Covid.
* Joe Biden increased the amount of the subsidies and expanded the number of
Americans eligible for this government assistance at a cost of about $40
billion a year.
* These Covid-era Obamacare subsidies expire at the end of 2025.
Democrats now want to make these Covid subsidies a permanent expansion of
government.
However, this program, if renewed, would cost hardworking Americans an
additional $400 billion over 10 years.
Here’s the worst part — 1 out of every 5 dollars spent is lost to fraud. Here
are three reasons why:
* In just one case, a Florida insurance broker targeted vulnerable,
low-income people and illegally signed them up for fully subsidized (i.e.,
free) Obamacare plans. This single fraud scheme saw the federal government dole
out $134 million. The broker pocketed huge commissions.
* But it gets worse. These inflated Covid subsidies end up benefitting
wealthy Americans more than the middle class. In fact, because they’re tied
only to income, even millionaires have qualified for subsidies to help cover
their health insurance premiums.
* And ... it gets even worse. A recent analysis by the Paragon Health
Institute found that the inflated subsidy program likely added millions of new
Obamacare enrollees whonever used the coverage.
In 2021, 3.5 million enrollees had no claims, whereas last year it was 11.7
million. Paragon calls it “a consequence of Biden-era policies that fueled a
surge of phantom enrollees.”
The fact is that these “phantom” enrollees likely didn’t even know they had an
Obamacare plan (many had other forms of coverage). Yet the insurance companies
and unscrupulous insurance brokers got paid billions of your tax dollars to
cover them.
Insurers and big-government politicians will fight tooth and nail to extend
this program.
We will be making a major effort to stop this Biden-era taxpayer rip-off, and
we’d like your help.
