President Trump is outraged. On hearing of Medicaid fraud perpetrated by Somalis in Minnesota, he stated: “Somalis ripped off that state for billions of dollars. They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in my country. Their country is no good for a reason. Their country stinks.”
The President is being a bit harsh. He is implying that Somalis are not assimilating because they are ripping off Medicaid and the taxpayers. He has it backwards. The Somalis are learning to play the game with amazing rapidity. They are not quite at the level of the Wall Street Welfare State led by Goldman Sachs and Citibank, who ripped off the taxpayers for over a trillion, but maybe after a generation or two, the Somalis will be partying in the Hamptons at taxpayer expense too.
First a little background. Somalia is located on the east coast of Africa, adjacent to Ethiopia and Kenya, and is one of poorest countries on the planet. The area was once a powerful empire during the Middle Ages and a center of trade but was colonized by both Italy and Great Britian. It became an independent country in 1960, but like many decolonized African countries, tribal borders were not respected resulting in internecine civil wars and massive political instability.
To escape, some Somalis made their way to the United States and while estimates vary, approximately 260,000 live here and most are citizens. As Minnesota is a welcoming state for new immigrants, about 100,000 Somalis migrated there, most concentrated in the Minneapolis.

Many are on public assistance, but some entrepreneurial Somalis figured out how to game the system. They established organizations such as Feeding Our Future, in which they swiped random names off a web site and claimed to be feeding them. But they just used the money to buy real estate and luxury vehicles. Another group called Smart Therapy pretended to help autistic children and actually gave families with healthy children pretending to be autistic $1,500 for enrolling in “therapy” sessions. And some families even demanded higher kickbacks!
These scams were well known but when government officials started to investigate, the fast-learning Somalis screamed racism, and that was the end of the investigations.
But President Trump is not pleased. He has called Somalis “garbage.” But instead, he should be hiring them.
For example, many Trump supporters are upset with President Trump because they purchased his stock DJT (Trump Media & Technology Group) along with the Trump bitcoin $TRUMP. DJT traded at $62 a share when President Trump was reelected in 2024 and now is at $11. It has a market cap of $3 billion, loses 59 cents a share and is on its way to 0.
$TRUMP bitcoin was at $45 at his inauguration and now trades at $5.80. It is on its way to zero too.
But who better than a Somali to take over DJT and $TRUMP and talk MAGA fans into buying more? And President Trump should not stop there. According to published reports, the smart money is that President Trump will choose either the Director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassert, or Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, as the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
This is ridiculous. Our country is over $38 trillion dollars in debt. We do not need another incompetent boring white male to perpetrate the same policies. We need a Somali.
A Somali would immediately issue trillions in dollars in bonds, sell them to the naïve Russians, Iranians and Chinese, default and Viola! - no more debt.
And how long before we see a Somali at the head of Goldman Sachs? The headhunters will tire of hiring dunderhead Harvard MBAs whose most imaginative scam is selling collaterized mortgages to brainless insurance company executives. A Somali will create bonds backing companies that will make gold out of saltwater. Alchemy will be huge once again.
Of course, the Goldman Sachs executives and President Trump will have to develop a taste for the Somali dish Makaq, camel meat stew. But it will be a small tradeoff for the profits produced by this latest addition to the American melting pot.
