John,

The road to beating Citizens United starts in Montana, and people are taking notice

The Transparent Election Initiative is using corporation law, rather than campaign finance law, to stop the ultra-wealthy from flooding money into our elections through “dark money” loopholes. When we pass our strategy ballot initiative, which means the people will enshrine these rights in our state constitution in 2026.

Our plan will become the legal blueprint for other states to render Citizens United irrelevant in their own states. We’re already fielding calls from people who want to do this in other states — blue, red, and purple alike — and our endorsements show it.

CHIP IN TO BEAT CITIZENS UNITED

Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich penned an enthusiastic analysis of our plan in his renowned newsletter:

“In Montana, local organizers have drafted and submitted a constitutional initiative for voters to consider in 2026 — the first step in a movement built to spread nationwide. It would decline to grant to all corporations the power to spend in elections.”

Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg mentioned our plan while speaking at an event in ruby red Texas:

“Interesting things are happening across the country… Montana is trying to address this through attention to what a corporation can and can’t do, because that’s actually decided at the state level.”

And a bipartisan coalition of leaders here at home, from Former Senator Jon Tester to Former Governor Marc Racicot, are on board:

“The Transparent Elections Initiative is a homegrown effort with the backing of national legal experts. It’s no surprise that Montana will be out front on this issue. Montana has long led the way in standing up to corporate influence in elections.”

Although we’re proud to have supporters on both sides of the aisle, we need the help of every person we can reach who wants to save democracy. As the new year approaches, we’re getting ready to kick off our signature collection campaign to qualify for the ballot. Please, John, will you join the team with a donation today?

CHIP IN TO SUPPORT OUR MISSION

Thank you for stepping up to support our mission of freeing our elections from undue corporate influence,
