Dear Friends,
During the shutdown, the Trump Administration blocked funding for heating assistance that 100,000 Connecticut residents rely on. I joined a bipartisan coalition to fight back – and $80 million in aid for Connecticut was released! Cold weather doesn’t wait for Donald Trump to come to his senses. It’s plain wrong for the administration to go after people’s basic needs to make a political point – just like they did with SNAP nutrition benefits.
The release of funding is welcome news, but the fight isn’t over. President Trump’s budget plan would completely eliminate funding for heating assistance and imperil other critical programs like Meals on Wheels. We cannot let that happen. I’ll keep fighting to make life more affordable for working families. You can learn more about eligibility and apply online now at CT.gov/HeatingHelp. Watch my video on new funding for heating assistance below.

I continue to hear from residents whose premiums will DOUBLE in the new year if Congress does not act to extend health care tax credits. The recent funding bill Republicans passed in Congress did nothing to address skyrocketing premiums, but I’m not giving up. Democrats have a plan. I signed a petition to force a House vote on our bill that would extend these credits that 112,000 Connecticut residents rely on. We only need four House Republicans to join us. Without action, the average family in our district will see costs rise by $2,571. While I continue this fight to lower costs, open enrollment is happening now – and financial help is still available for most residents.
