John,
A new report shows that Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House and leader of the GOP majority, is “quietly working” behind closed doors to jeopardize IVF access for military families.
We wanted to bring this development to your attention because it’s one more example of how what MAGA politicians say and what they do are often two very different things.
The upcoming defense bill, the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, has included a provision that would guarantee health insurance coverage of fertility care like in vitro fertilization (IVF) for all active-duty military families.
This provision has had widespread support and was set to expand access to IVF. But Johnson is reportedly pushing to remove that coverage entirely, reversing what could have been a historic step forward.
While Donald Trump has dubbed himself the “father of IVF,” his administration and allied politicians are actually making moves to reduce access, not expand it.
In combination with the recent attacks on Medicaid and Planned Parenthood, it’s clear that this is part of a broader, long-running pattern of dismantling access to critical health services for working families. MAGA politicians continue to roll back access to abortion, reproductive health services, gender-affirming care, and now, even fertility treatment for those who serve our country.
Everyone deserves access to healthcare and the ability to build a thriving family if, when, and how they choose to. That’s why we’ll keep working to hold politicians like Mike Johnson accountable, and to elect candidates who will stand up for our families and futures.
Thanks for being with us,
