Colin and John Lewis

John, I think often about what my mentor, Congressman John Lewis, would say if he were still with us today.
He poured everything he had into securing the right to vote.
He was beaten, jailed, and nearly killed for believing that every American deserved a voice in our democracy. And yet, even after all he endured, he never lost hope or his belief in what this country could become.
I was lucky enough to learn from him directly. He inspired me to become a civil rights lawyer at a time when Texas Republicans were working to make voting harder. And he's the reason I believe so deeply that the right to vote is the foundation of every other right we have.
So when I ask myself what John Lewis would do in this moment, as our voting rights are under attack through racially gerrymandered lines being drawn, I already know the answer: He would keep going. And I will, too.
I'll always stand up for what John Lewis believed in. I'll fight to protect access to the ballot box, stop efforts to silence Black and Brown voters, and defend the democracy he sacrificed so much to build up.
We are at a pivotal moment right now, with a real opportunity to flip Texas blue and pick up one of the four seats Democrats need to regain control of the Senate – a seat Roll Call recently named as one of the top three most likely to flip, but I can't do this alone.
With Republicans nationwide already pumping over $40 million into this Texas Senate race, our campaign is facing a critical fundraising moment, and your support is what powers the fight to win this seat and protect voting rights in Texas and across the country.
Will you chip in today to help me carry on John Lewis' legacy by sending me, a voting right lawyer, to the U.S. Senate so that I can fight for our most fundamental right?

Thank you for being in this fight with me.
