John,
Trump keeps attacking my sister-in-service Ilhan Omar and the Somali-American immigrant community.
This week, Trump called Ilhan “garbage” and added that immigrants like her are “garbage” too.
This has put a target on the backs of Somali-American families, at the same time as Trump is sending federal immigration agents to target Somali immigrants in Ilhan’s state of Minnesota.
Trump also recently told Ilhan to go back to Somalia, which she fled at 8 years old; she’s been a U.S. citizen for 25 years. His racist conspiracy theories about her have led to ongoing harassment and threats to her life.
Right-wing hate has forced both Ilhan and me to hire our own security, and those costs are adding up.
Will you join me in standing with Ilhan Omar and our immigrant neighbors? Please push back against hate and show that our neighbors belong here, by splitting a contribution of $5 or whatever you can afford between Ilhan’s campaign and my campaign today.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, split evenly between Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar
As the first two Muslim women in Congress, Ilhan and I have faced death threats before. During his first term, Trump kept telling us to “go back where we came from” (though I was born and raised in Detroit!). He even blocked us from traveling to Palestine.
But we’re stronger when we stick together, which helps us stay focused on the fight for equity, dignity, and human rights for all people. We know that everyone has inherent worth and value by virtue of being human.
Ilhan has consistently supported my legislation to end U.S. complicity in war crimes, stop U.S. support for Israel’s apartheid and genocide, take on billionaires and oligarchs, and save lives.
And I’ve been proud to co-sponsor Ilhan’s policies like the Neighbors Not Enemies Act, which would fully repeal a dangerous law that was used to imprison Japanese-Americans in World War II—a law that Trump is trying to weaponize to deport and imprison Americans.
Early in the pandemic, Ilhan’s MEALS Act fed 30 million schoolchildren. Together, we’re fighting for a country where we take care of our neighbors and everyone has what they need to thrive.
Because of our bold progressive leadership and our marginalized identities, right-wing billionaires want to tear us down.
If you can, John, please support Ilhan and me by splitting a contribution between our campaigns today. Your donation will send a message that we will not be intimidated by hate, and that our movement won’t back down in the fight against fascism and oppression.
Thank you so much. We’ll keep pushing back against the demonization of our neighbors and fighting for a country where everyone is welcome and free to be who they are.
Time and again, mass movements have toppled dictators and won transformative changes to make people’s lives better. We have power together.
Onward to a better future for all,
Rashida
