[Surfers Against Sewage logo <[link removed]>] John, the dedication of this community blows me away, every single time.
This year alone, our Million Mile Clean volunteers have removed 60,617kgs of plastic from our coastline. ✊
That’s the equivalent of around 22,000 bin bags! Try fitting that in your wheelie bin…
But while we’re busy pulling bottles and bags from the sand, the government is making underhand deals that’ll send even more plastic our way. Yep, that’s right. In 2024, they pledged a whopping £600 million to help build Europe’s largest petrochemical plant - a facility designed to flood the planet with MORE plastic. 🤯 Furious? 😡 Yes. Hopeless? Not the SAS community. We’ve taken on polluters and politicians before - and won. Last year, we brought water pollution to the top of the government’s agenda for the first time in three decades . And in 2026 we have no plans to stop. Together, we can make sure this plastic nightmare can’t be ignored. We’ll be holding the government to account for its plastic hypocrisy, and pushing them to cut off pollution at its source. 📢 But we’re going to need bigger, louder actions to grab headlines and push plastics back on the national agenda. Will you help make it happen?
John , when you donate to our [People vs. Plastic Big Give Appeal <[link removed]>] this week, your gift will be doubled - that’s DOUBLE the power to tackle the government and Big Plastic head-on. Will you donate today to keep plastic pollution in the spotlight? [Donate to DOUBLE my impact <[link removed]>]
The headlines might have faded, but our focus hasn’t. The SAS team’s been tracking the UK government’s every move. In August this year, they made big promises in Geneva at discussions for The Global Plastics Treaty.
But the small progress that has been made has been undermined by new policies for more oil, more gas, and more plastic. *Sigh* We cannot allow our government to stand on the world stage calling for “action at all stages of the plastics life cycle” and then fund projects that do the exact opposite. 💸
Take the new Rosebank oil and gas field in the North Sea - a plan the government has the opportunity to approve or reject. If approved, it could unleash 500 million barrels of oil, and lock the UK into decades of fossil fuel production and ultimately, MORE plastic pollution. This cannot be allowed to happen. 🚫
John , will you stand with us? Donate today to fuel the fight for REAL commitments to the plastics crisis. [I'll chip in to fuel the fight - all donations doubled <[link removed]>]
Thank you for being part of this movement. Together, we’ll turn outrage into change. Dani Director of Campaigns and Communities P.S. If you’ve already donated, thank you SO much – and sorry to email you again (sometimes we’re not able to update our systems as quickly as we’d like).
